Prayer of the people | October 12

A

s a community of believers we gather, carrying with us many cares, needs and burdens.  None of which are too great or too small that they cannot be brought to you. We pray this night for the enormous needs of the world, for the many people who struggle to find enough food, for the many people for whom the only water available is dirty and diseased, for the people whose constant companion is sickness.  Today we give thanks for the knowledge that you are there in the midst of those people, your people, our people.  Help us to help each other.
Lord in your mercy…

We pray this night for the needs of the church.  For the places in which there is conflict, schism and discontent.  We pray for the proceedings of Synod in our Diocese next month.  Today we give thanks for the many expressions of which your church embodies. We give thanks for this community, aware that we continue to learn what it means to be church as we practice doing church.
Lord in your mercy…

We pray this night for the needs of this city.  For those people who find themselves without provision, shelter or friendship.  We give thanks for the many who volunteer to offer some of these gifts.
Lord in your mercy…

We pray for those ministries with which we are involved, for the workers and guests of Agape Table, knowing that our contribution is small but well received.  For the Sisters of the Church who faithfully keep us in prayer, for Lola and Rogers with the Home Project in Uganda.  We give thanks for their dedication, commitment and service.
Lord in your mercy…

We pray this night for those known to us who are in need.  Whose lives have been touched by pain, sickness or death.  We lift these people to you knowing it is only your touch, your peace that can comfort. I invite the community to name those aloud…
For those named aloud, those mentioned in the quite of our hearts, and for those for whom we have forgotten we ask, knowing that you will never forget.
Lord in your mercy…

Amen
