Prayers of the people | June 14

We call the community into a time of prayer. God of wisdom and love, source of all good, send your spirit to teach us your truth and guide our actions in your way of peace.
Lord in your mercy…

Deliver us from hardship and violence Lord, and from hardness of heart and from contempt of your love and your promises. Protect us from the notion that you are no longer involved in our lives.
Lord in your mercy…

Lord you see the events in our lives so differently. By your Spirit may we learn a new way of interpreting our life and our surrounding.

  • remind us that the dry places of life hold within them a sense of promise;
  • remind us that despair need only be momentary and not a permanent place of dwelling for our souls;
  • remind us that the worst of times always have the potential to draw from within us the best of our resources and abilities;
  • remind us that the darkness can never overcome the light and that hope can never be extinguished from the human soul.

Lord in your mercy…

We pray for the needs of Christ’s church, in all of its forms throughout the world. We pray for this community of saint benedict’s table and for the churches from which we are drawn and for the many ways it finds expression; through art and music, community service and dialogue and the ongoing study of your word. At this time we pray especially for Lola and Roger in Uganda and the very recent birth of their son Oren Subi; continue to bless their marriage and their HOME ministry there. We also pray for Agape Table, please bless their efforts as they serve the many who are hungry, every day.
Lord in your mercy…

We ask your gentle care in the war-torn areas of our world. We pray for the uprooted, the refugees, the hungry, the children and all the innocents who find themselves in the wrong place at the wrong time. Be with our armed forces as they daily are in danger. Be with our world leaders and cause them to become true men and women of state. Bend low your presence to all of the suffering, particularly those in the health care industry and those effected by the current flu virus. Please provide them with courage and a renewed hope for a better life.
Lord in your mercy…

God of flesh and bone, your children are burdened by sorrow and disease. Please heal our pain and suffering, assure us of your presence, and equip us to embrace all who’s bodies ache for wholeness. Lord, we pray for the needs of those known to us; for those who are sick or suffering, alone or isolated, or who have other needs and challenges. We offer those names aloud to you now Lord…
For those named aloud, those spoken in the silence of our hearts and even for those for whom we have forgotten to pray;
Lord in your mercy…

Eternal God, you counsel us not to be anxious about earthly things. Keep alive in us a proper yearning for those heavenly treasures awaiting all who trust in your mercy, that we may daily rejoice in your salvation and serve you with constant devotion.

Amen
