or the third summer in a row, saint benedict’s table is collaborating with the Plett family to offer a truly unique summer day camp. For five days in August, fourteen kids between the ages of 8 and 15 will descend on what we have come to call “the Plett Ranch,” (a great property, just minutes from Bird’s Hill Park) to play hard, do a bit of learning together, build a sense of connection to each other, and generally discover some things about themselves.
Monday August 9 through Friday August 13
There are only three spaces still available!
Part of what makes this camp really unique is the inclusion of four young people from The King’s School Transitional Program/ The Bridge Program, an extension of the Gateway Community Church. The Transitional Program welcomes refugee families new to Canada from war-torn lands to enroll their children in this faith-based transition to Canadian schooling and the English language. The students are predominantly from Africa, and many of them have spent most of their childhood years in refugee camps. Our day camp will provide these young people the opportunity to spend a week outside of downtown Winnipeg, experiencing some things that would not otherwise be available to them.
In order to enable these four young people to join the camp, we will be accepting donations toward full or partial camperships. We will also welcome the donation of another mountain bike or two (of a size suitable for a young teen), some lumber to build more ramps and bridges, as well as cash donations to offset some of the incidental expenses. Financial donations can be made to the church, and will be receipted for tax purposes.
