Prayers of the People | May 23

Let us call the community into a time of prayer. Our Glorious God we ask in remembrance of the day of Pentecost when all were gathered in one place. They were Christ’s Holy Catholic Church and may we as your universal Church continue to gather, to act according to your son’s teaching that we need to love one another as he has loved us.

Let us pray to the Lord, Hear us Lord of Glory

Our Glorious God we ask in remembrance of the sudden sound from heaven that came like a rush of a violent wind and filled the entire house that we too trust in your strength, and are prepared to accept whatever you call us to do. May we know you are in control and truly that the holy spirit guides us, and well we ask you to guide all Bishops, Priests, Deacons, leaders of ministry of your Church.

Let us pray to the Lord, Hear us Lord of Glory

Our Glorious God we ask in remembrance of the Holy Spirit filling each person at Pentecost with the gift of speaking many other languages, that we too may let the spirit enable us to speak the language of caring such as with Home Uganda.  May we speak the language of love without condition to the hungry, sick, and the homeless such as in Haiti and remember Pierre as he continues to serve the Haitian people for one more week.  Finally let us speak the language of hospitality such as in Agape table and in the work that the sister’s of Burlington do.

Let us pray to the Lord, Hear us Lord of Glory

Our Glorious God We ask in remembrance of those at Pentecost speaking of God’s deeds of power. We pray that your power is present through us and for each person struggling with an addiction, mental illness, a chronic and terminal illness, a disability, unemployment, living with violence due to war, or living in poverty.  We especially pray for your power of wisdom for those leaders dealing with the economy in Europe so that they protect those with the least resources.

Let us pray to the Lord, Hear us Lord of Glory

Our Glorious God, we ask in remembrance that at Pentecost those present were blessed with the insight that everyone who calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved, for in their confusion of not having the physical Christ present, their hearts were renewed with hope in the presence of the holy spirit. We now take a moment to name those who are in the greatest need of hope…

Let us pray to the Lord, Hear us Lord of Glory

Our Glorious God we pray for support of those who have had a recent death of a loved one, those remembering an anniversary of a loss, or those who are supporting someone who is grieving.  Also we pray for the recent victims of the Air India plane crash, may those left to mourn them be comforted.

Let us pray to the Lord, Hear us Lord of Glory
