Jacob’s Well

T

his past Sunday Mike Koop arrived with a new song, written in response to the gospel reading for the week. Called “Jacob’s Well,” the song is a poetic imagining of the conversation between Jesus and the Samaritan woman recounted in John 4:1-42. A live-off-the-floor recording was made, and though it lacks the polish and balance of a studio recording we did think it well worth sharing. Mike is accompanied on this one by Charles Garinger (bass and vocals), Jodi McLaren (vocals), Larry ¬†Campbell (percussion and vocals), and Bob Hobson (percussion).

He sat down at Jacob’s Well
and asked her for some water
she said sir I’m Samaritan
your request I can not honor
Please give me water
pure clear water
my thirst has brought me low
please give me water
pure clear water
my thirst is all I know
_
He said woman if you only knew
about the cup I offer
just drink of my dram so sure & sweet
and you will live forever

I thought you were a prophet
when you told me who I am
But then you offered to set me free
Now I see and I believe in my soul
that your cup is all I need
