Hear the Silence – Our first Hear the Silence liturgy for the fall is set for this Saturday September 15, 7pm at the church. A liturgy of stillness, music, readings and prayer, led by Gord Johnson and Larry Campbell. If you’ve never joined us for one of these liturgies, this might be a really good way to launch into a new season.

For parents of young children – We will again have our pre-school child care program available during the 7pm service, beginning next Sunday September 16. And our Sunday 4pm liturgy resumes on September 23, and will be gathering on the 1st and 3rd Sunday of each month through the fall. This 40 minute liturgy is geared to families with younger children, but is certainly welcoming to people of all ages.

Exploring Sabbath: An introduction to contemplative retreat offered to people ages 16-25. St Benedict’s Monastery and Retreat Centre, Friday, September 21 7pm – Saturday, September 22, 7pm. Led by Kalyn Falk and Rachel Twigg Boyce, both experienced spiritual directors, this saint benedict’s table retreat will provide an opportunity to learn about and experience spiritual exercises, silence, spiritual direction, worship and personal reflection. $80, including private room, breakfast, lunch and supper. Theology by the Glass – the final round in this summer series is set for Monday September 24, 7:30pm at “The Red Cactus,” 691 Corydon Avenue. For this one we’ll be introduced to the figure of Daniel Berrigan, a near legendary radical in the 1960s who at the age of 92 is still characterized as “America’s Street Priest” in this article by the journalist Chris Hedges. A support circle for caregivers – Helen and Paul Holbrook have decided to launch a monthly group for people involved in pastoral ministry or other “helping” work (social workers, medical staff, even school teachers… anyone whose work calls them to into roles of counsel and support). Both Helen and Paul work in the field of spiritual care in hospital settings. The first gathering is set for Thursday October 4, the second for Thursday November 1.
