Prayers of the People | September 9

Our strong and faithful God, we come to you soaked in sun-rays, anticipating and perhaps anxious for the new season of autumn, seeking your comfort and guidance.

We remember the gifts you blessed us with during the summer, and look forward in faith to new growth as the trees turn golden. We ask for your blessing on all of creation.

Lord in your mercy,

Hear our prayer

 1. We thank you for being at work at Bible camps all summer, and for Christian organizations and congregations around the world. As we ask for your blessing and energy as Christian Universities start up again.            As a global church, help us to be generous, gracious and Christ-serving.

We thank you for this community of believers and your presence with us. Guide us to serve one another and the wider community. Show us how to use our blessings to bless others, and bind us together with your holy spirit.

Lord in your mercy,

Hear our prayer

2. We pray for the world. We pray for hope in the Middle East. We come to you concerned about our own country’s contributions to violence, both around the world, and in Canada.

We pray for healing in aboriginal-non aboriginal relations, and thank you for the work started with the Truth and Reconciliation Commission in Canada: may all have opportunity for healing, and may it be to your glory.

We pray for those suffering around the world – from poverty, from the results of natural disasters. We ask that you’d bring beauty out of disaster.

Lord in your mercy,

Hear our prayer

3.  We pray for the needs of others – for friends with addictions, sickness, sorrow and physical pain. We name them now, aloud or in the silence of our hearts.

(space to pray. count 20 seconds)

For these, and especially for those whom we have forgotten to pray,

Lord in your mercy,

Hear our prayer

4. Comfort and fill us with your holy spirit as we remember those for whom we grieve, those who are dying, and those who mourn. Remind us that you are with us in suffering.

Lord in your mercy,

Hear our prayer

Merciful God,

Accept these our prayers

for the sake of your Son

our Saviour Jesus Christ.

Amen
