Prayers of the People | April 7

Resurrected Lord, empower your holy catholic church. Breathe in us your Holy Spirit, so that we may all be emboldened to speak your truth & do your will, in obedience to you, oh God, rather than to man. Keep church leaders faithful to your Word. We pray especially for newly elected Pope Francis – walk with him as he leads the Roman Catholic church, & open to him the gifts of the spirit – especially wisdom, discernment, courage & humility.

Lord, in your mercy…

We pray for your Chosen People of Israel and for the peace of Jerusalem. By your grace we have been grafted onto this holy tree of life. Honour your eternal covenants with your Chosen Ones so that your glory will be revealed in Zion & all nations will know that YOU are God.

Lord, in your mercy…

Jesus, with our whole hearts we thank you for not casting us aside from your presence because of our doubts. We ask that you work within us all to bring answers to our questions, to transform doubt into belief, hope & joy, just as you did for your disciple, Thomas. Meet each one of us in the place of our own unique needs, & reveal yourself to us as our Lord & our God.

Lord, in your mercy…

Merciful Father, look upon those regions of the world frought with civil unrest, violence, poverty, oppression & famine. Bring abiding peace, abundance, freedom & justice for all.

Lord, in your mercy…

We pray for our priest, Jamie Howison. Bless the missions that St. Benedict’s Table supports –  El Shaddai in Haiti, Agape Table, Broadway Neighbourhood Centre & other core ministries in Winnipeg. We entrust in your loving care all who are anxious or distressed in mind or body, especially those we name before you…

For those named aloud, and those held in the quiet of our hearts, and for those for whom we have forgotten to pray, bring comfort, healing & wholeness to each according to their need.

Lord, in your mercy…

We remember loved ones who have departed, and we pray for all those who mourn their passing. We also pray for those who grieve other losses in life. Ease their pain, & bring them your enduring peace.

Lord, in your mercy…

Into your hands, oh Lord, we commend all for whom we pray, trusting in your mercy through your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. AMEN
