Prayers of the People | July 3, 2016

I call the community to a time of prayer … let us pray
Our Father God, we thank you for the Bible readings this evening from Galatians and the Gospel of Luke. Thank you for the reminders that we are to be a people of a new creation in Christ. And thank-you for Jamie’s careful unpacking of a difficult text.

Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer

God of Mercy, we pray for the church throughout the world. During days of strife and tension and destruction in many parts of the world, we pray that your church would be a place of peace, and love and mercy. May we of the church be marked as a people of unity in a world that seems to be fragmenting. We pray for all those in leadership in our local and national church, that they remain faithful to you.

Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer.

Our Creator God, on this Canada Day weekend we thank-you for our country. We thank-you Canada is a peaceful and prosperous land. We are grateful that we can gather to worship you and not have to fear the police bursting into our service. We have freedom, a universal health care system, and we are envied around the world.

Please guide the citizens of Fort McMurray as the rebuild their city after the fire.

Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer.

All powerful God, We pray for the countless people who are struggling to survive the affects of war and famine. We grieve the loss of so many to violence that seems so insane to us we cannot comprehend it. We pray for the friends and families of the 49 people who died in the Orlando mass shooting.

Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer.

Loving God, we pray for the folks known us who battle with chronic illness, addictions and mental health issues everyday. We ask you to comfort them and strengthen them and may they know deep down they are not forgotten and their lives are not meaningless. We pray for all those who are struggling in mind, body, or spirit and who lives are touched by st. benedict’s table. We speak aloud the names of people in need of prayer ….
For those named, those recalled in the quietness of our hearts and for those forgotten.

Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer.

Heavenly Father, we pray for our church saint benedict’s table. Thank-you for our people. May we be a people of honesty, humility and faith. Be with those who are grieving the loss of a loved one, encourage those looking for work and guide those in leadership. Bless our students this summer as they work and prepare for the Fall semester. We also pray for the family from Syria that we will sponsor – please protect them. Give them and us your patience as they wait to come to our city.

Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer.

Please accept these prayers in the name of your Son, our Savior, Jesus Christ.
Amen
