Prayers of the People | November 26

I call the community into a time of prayer.

We pray for our neighbourhood and city

We thank you for the many people in this community and city who serve you in ways both seen and unseen, acknowledged and unacknowledged. We pray in particular tonight that you will guide and bless Agape Table as they seek to find a new home to serve those with food security needs in our community.

Lord in your mercy,

Hear our prayer

We take a moment to be mindful of the needs of our world.

We think of the Rohingya people displaced from Myanmar and their need for safety, security and a place to call home. We think of Zimbabwe, Northern Sinai, Syria and many other places with conflict, political unrest or natural disasters. God of compassion, come to the aid of your creation and give us eyes to see how we can participate in your work.

Lord in your mercy, Hear our prayer

Closer to home, with think of the many high profile sexual harassment and abuse cases that have recently been reported in the media.

God of Justice and Mercy, we pray for healing for the many who have been subjected to harassment and abuse and especially for those for whom these events have stirred up their own trauma and pain.

Lord in your mercy, Hear our prayer

God of Justice, we thank you for the bright light of truth… We pray that many more will have the courage to work towards justice and right relationships by shining their light of truth. Convict us of the ways we have, both knowingly and unknowingly, done harm to others and to your creation with actions that were rooted in the perversion of power and patriarchy.

Lord in your mercy, Hear our prayer

We call to mind the needs of those known to us;

for those who are sick or suffering, alone or isolated, or who have other needs and challenges. We name them aloud or speak them in the silence of our hearts.

We ask that You lift up those we have brought to mind, and especially those whom we have forgotten.

Lord in your mercy,

Hear our prayer.
