Prayers of the People | January 7

Blessed are you, oh Light of Salvation that has risen in the darkness we inhabit, that shines and beckons all nations to your light, and kings to a brilliant new dawn. Rejoicing in the light of Christ that shines upon us, we pray for the church, the world, and all according to their needs. Reveal the glory of your loving presence in our congregation and your holy catholic church, and fill our hearts with songs of your praise.

Lord, in your mercy…

Blessed are you, Divine Protector, who led the Maji to bear witness to the arrival of Messiah then led them on a safe route home, shielding the promised One from harm. We have not the wisdom, faith, navigation, or riches of the Maji. We have no gifts to offer Christ except our humble hearts. Yet we stand in homage and rejoice that the promised Light of Redemption has led us to our heavenly home. We pray for the peace of Jerusalem, the consolation of Israel, and the ultimate restoration of all creation in your glorious majesty.

Lord, in your mercy…

Blessed are you, our Creator, for the earth that brings new life in due season. Blessed are you for sun and moon, snow and fog, mountains and plains, oceans and lakes, creeping things and flying birds. Thank you for them all.

Lord, in your mercy…

Blessed are you, Redeemer, for the hope you send among the nations. You have commanded us to love our enemies and pray for those who persecute us. We pray for our adversaries who assault our faith throughout the world. Grant us wisdom to stand firm, to speak the truth in love, and to accept the cost of being faithful witnesses.

Lord, in your mercy…

Blessed are you, Yahweh, for the children in our midst. Raise up for them faithful families, mentors, guides, and teachers, and make them joyous, healthy and kind.

Lord, in your mercy…

Blessed are you, Sovereign Most High, for coming to us in our weakness. Shower healing and hope on all for whom the future seems to hold more threat than promise – the discouraged, the weary, the distraught, the sick, and the bereaved, especially those we name before you…

Hear the hopes and prayers of our hearts, O God of Israel, and magnify our joy at the birth of your Light among us, Jesus Christ our Saviour.

AMEN
