Prayers of the People | August 8

Posted by Terri on August 12th, 2010

Iwill lie down and sleep in peace, for you alone, O Lord, make me dwell in safety.  O God, we thank you for this beautiful summer weather, for the colorful landscapes of our gardens, restful vistas where we retreat, and for the joy of reunions with family and friends.  As we heard in tonight’s lesson, we have the joy and privilege of being your sons and daughters as well as  the awesome responsibility this carries.  Make us effective stewards to this end as we remain watchful, faithful and ready.

I will lie down and sleep in peace, for you alone, O Lord, make me dwell in safety.  Lord, In Your Mercy, Hear Our Prayer. (more…)

Prayers of the People | July 25

F ather, we come to you in prayer this mid-summer Sunday filled with the joy of your presence, the faith as confessed Christians, and the hope of your ongoing intersection of our personal and vocational lives.  Just as we witness rich growth in vegetation of both food and flowers in our gardens, tonight’s lesson speaks to the church family being rooted,  built up and established – with the tender balance of rain and  resistance;  sunshine and service.  We are also reminded that consistent, persistent daily prayer can be motivated by the assurance that even if inconvenienced, God will surely answer our petitions.  We pray to God, who when we ask, opens the door. Prayers of the People | July 18

Icall the community into a time of prayer. Teacher, we are often worried and upset about many things when only one thing is needed. Show us how to choose what is better, even if that means that dinner will be a little late. Sometimes, it is better to sit and listen to a story than to keep to a schedule. Today, as we sit in freedom and safety, we remember the stories of those around the world who are oppressed, in danger, and without the means to meet their basic needs. We have heard and recall the stories of people displaced from their homes in China due to flooding, and those who have lost loved ones in the typhoon that hit the Philippines earlier this week. We recall the three-month-long story of oil gushing into the Gulf of Mexico, and feel both relief that the leak has been stopped and grief for the damage that has been irrevocably done: to people’s livelihoods, to plants and animals, and to the ocean itself. We pray for justice and peace around the world. We pray that the hungry would be fed. We ask for freedom for all who are oppressed. We request healing and rebirth for this groaning planet. As we remember the stories, we also ask to have the courage to contribute well to the ongoing plotline, writing what good we can manage among the fragmented sentences.

Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

As a community of believers in a living God we gather tonight and pray for the many needs of the world.  We pray for the wildlife that is affected by the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, for the workers and volunteers who are helping with the clean up operation.    We pray this night for Lola and Roger at Home Omuka, we pray that they are safe after the explosions in Kampala today, be with them as they continue to pour out love and compassion to their found family of teenagers in Uganda. W e call the community into a time of prayer. Hope of the nations, we pray for the world. On this day when the United States of America celebrates their freedom and strength, we pray that the American people would be mindful of their responsibility to the rest of the world, that American leaders would make wise decisions working toward global peace and equality. Similarly, the Queen’s visit yesterday and the dedication of the Museum of Human Rights reminds us that we Canadians also have global responsibilities. May Canada truly be a free country, advocating not only for our own rights but also for the rights of all earth’s citizens.

Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer. (more…)

Heavenly Father, we pray for your holy catholic church. Govern us by your Holy Spirit so that we may live in truth, faith and righteousness for your name’s sake. We pray for your Chosen People of Israel and for the peace of Jerusalem. By your grace we have been grafted onto this holy tree of life. Honour your eternal covenants with your Chosen Ones so that your glory will be revealed in Zion and all nations will know that You are God.

I invite the community into a time of prayer. Let us pray with confidence to the Lord, responding to the invitation “Lord in your mercy,” by saying, “Hear our prayer.”Creator God, we pray for all who call themselves Christians: that we may become a royal priesthood, a holy people, to the praise of Christ Jesus our Saviour.

Lord in your mercy, Hear our prayer.

G od our provider, it is by you that all good things are had.  Thank you for your love and constant guidance.  May our ears be ever ready to listen to your voice and may our lives reflect well the people that we are in you.

Lord in your Mercy, Hear our prayer.

God we gather again this evening to praise your name.  As your people, you know full well each member of this community.  Calm our hearts and minds amidst the hectic toiling of the day to day.  May our work this evening, and always, be a joyful and worthy offering to you and may our spirit be refreshed and nourished anew as a result of having taken part.

Lord in your Mercy, Hear our prayer.

Father, our liturgical calendar continues this Trinity Sunday and we are blessed by the guidance the spirit gives our community and challenged where our connections are beyond these walls.  We thank you for our commitment to Agape Table and for our arm of support to the Home Uganda Project and Pierre Plourde’s work in Haiti.  May our stories create a myriad of beauty like pieces of a quilt – designed from varying shapes, colors, textures, and strengths.  May we celebrate community, relationships, and neighbourhoods in the spirit and life of the church. Prayers of the People | May 23

Posted by Terri on May 25th, 2010

Let us call the community into a time of prayer. Our Glorious God we ask in remembrance of the day of Pentecost when all were gathered in one place. They were Christ’s Holy Catholic Church and may we as your universal Church continue to gather, to act according to your son’s teaching that we need to love one another as he has loved us.

Let us pray to the Lord, Hear us Lord of Glory

Our Glorious God we ask in remembrance of the sudden sound from heaven that came like a rush of a violent wind and filled the entire house that we too trust in your strength, and are prepared to accept whatever you call us to do. May we know you are in control and truly that the holy spirit guides us, and well we ask you to guide all Bishops, Priests, Deacons, leaders of ministry of your Church. (more…)
