Well, not so sure that heads will roll, Byron, but Steve is feeling pretty bad about it all. He's promising to give a free CD to all ticket holders at the rescheduled concert!

For Theology by the Glass (May 14, 2012), I'm planning to bring materials for "Praying in Color," which Lauren Winner describes as "praying via doodling," and "a major piece of my prayer life." C.f.

Thanks for this, Bryan.
I think that one of the more interesting observations has to do with how, when you visited other Anglican parishes, you were often told that it "was going to be a lot more traditional then saint benedict’s." Your sense that this generally meant "there was going to be a choir, an organ, a strict conformity to the prescribed liturgy" is absolutely on... and I would say what these folks were really describing was not so much "traditional" as "conventional."

Back in 2006, John Longhurst wrote a profile of saint ben's for the Winnipeg Free Press, in which he picked up on a comment I made about how "We wanted to loosen the bolts on the ancient Anglican tradition and give it new flexibility and play." I think that is not a bad description of our ethos, but since then I've come to think that any time a church tradition becomes too firmly bolted down it tips over into traditionalism; an entirely different thing from being rooted.

If you're interested, the Free Press piece is still available online: http://www.winnipegfreepress.com/historic/31872529.html

Thanks for inviting Bishop Mark, and posting this conversation. Because of this, I'm taking an intensive course with him called "Indigenous Wisdom," through the University of Winnipeg - Faculty of Theology, happening at UW North End Campus - 527 Selkirk Ave.. We're discussing Bible scripture and readings (First Peoples Theology Journal, Report of the Royal Commission on Aboriginal Peoples), sharing ceremonies, and learning out of our diverse experiences as indigenous and non-indigenous people from Turtle Island and around the world. Please pray and plan participate on May 13: Sisters in Spirit annual Mothers Day Walk to honour missing and murdered Aboriginal Sisters, who are all our relatives. The walk begins at 1pm at the St Regis Hotel (285 Smith St.) ends at Oodena Celebration Circle. http://www.theforks.com/events/calendar-of-events#event_1492_20120513

I was thinking about this again after Will Braun spoke to a class in March about his work with the Interfaith Task Force on Northern Hydro Development. http://energyjustice.mcc.org/about/coalition . It was Will who framed this helpfully for me around the time of that ideaExchange you reference. Christians "enter into the darkness, to the places of pain and shame" also within the mystery of grace --as you quote, as "patient observers of God’s healing action, [...] the coming of the good news of restoration."

"God has no hands but ours".... What is God's responsibility, and what is ours? Is our disbelief a result of not seeing God act to change all the wrongs in this world, or a result of our own impotence to affect the change we pray for so diligently? How does God heal "brokenness" - through transcendent miracle of grace or through his children who, through their own brokenness, have a passion for healing others (no less a miracle of grace) and actually get involved in the lives of other broken people?
