1 Corinthians 13… reimagined

1 Corinthians 13… reimagined

Last night at worship Jaylene Johnson brought us a new song based on 1 Corinthians 13, which was one of the lectionary readings for the evening. Recognizing that this text is more than a little familiar, she set about rephrasing and reordering Paul’s text so that we all might be able to hear it – and sing it – anew. We think she managed to do that rather nicely!

Love is patient

Love is kind

It isn’t envious

Or full of pride

It doesn’t push for its own way

Dwell on sin or manipulate

Love bears all things

Love believes all things

Love hopes all things

Love endures all things   (x2)

Love never ends            (x4)

(We can) speak in tongues

(We can) prophesy

Know all there is to know

The whole world wide

(We can) have the faith to make mountains fall

(But) if we don’t have love

We’ve got nothing at all
