I Become What I Receive

I Become What I Receive

This is a very raw, live-off-the-floor recording of a song we sang during communion on the 1st Sunday in Lent. The song is by Alana Levandoski, and has only one line: “I become what I receive.” Originally released on her remarkable Behold, I Make All Things New project, the song picks up on the sentence we always use as the communion bread is broken for sharing: “This is the Body of Christ: Behold what you are, become what you receive.”

In the background you can hear the creaking of the floorboards as people come up the aisle to receive, along the voices of the communion administrants as they offer the bread and wine to each person in the circle. Those sounds combine with the music and words to create a truly meditative bit of audio.
