Music from Christmas Eve

Music from Christmas Eve

Our liturgy on Christmas Eve included music both old and new, led by one of our typical ensembles of guitar, bass, piano, percussion and vocals but also supplemented by the pipe organ and a trumpet. We’ve created a bit of a sampler of the music, which includes settings of three carols – “Hark the herald angels sing,” “Angels we have heard on high” and “Go tell it on the mountain” – along with a version of Alana Levandoski’s wonderful song for the season, “Shepherds.”

We stood watch just like any other night

Counting sheep, trying to stay upright

Shuffling our feet, we heard the beat

Of an angel’s wings, an angel’s wing

And above we saw the strangest thing

The light all around began to sing…

Glory…

We left the fields, moved by the angel’s song

Even the sheep seemed to sing along

We ran like drunken poets looking for their muse

To the beat of angels’ wings

And below we saw the strangest sign,

And all at once, our hearts knew what to cry…

Glory…

(words and music by Alana Levandoski)
