Original music for Lent

Original music for Lent

We thought we needed to share this basic “live-off-the-floor” recording of a song written by Gord Johnson for the season of Lent. Led by Gord (in the company of Larry Campbell, and a congregation of 220 voices) on the fourth Sunday of Lent, the song picks up on the connection between the forty days of Lent and the forty years the freed Hebrew slaves spent in the Sinai Desert.

Forty years out in the desert
Forty years a wandering
Up ahead there’s milk and honey
Time to end this suffering
Oh, we are your people
Oh, Lord hear our cry

We recall when we were captive
Worked our fingers down to the bone
We cried out, “Lord, see our suffering”
You cried back, “you’re not alone”

When you meet, when you remember
Think of all the Lord has done
Once alone, stuck in the desert
(He) called you out, gave you a home
