Songs from Sunday night… and more

On Sunday July 6, Allan Fehr’s group offered up two communion songs that we inherited from Jenny Moore prior to her move to England in 2007. Here Trish Vrolijk handled the lead vocals, with Al on piano, Charles Garinger on bass, Larry Campbell on percussion, and Tatiana Friesen on viola. All of them also provided background vocals, as did Jodi Penner.

The audio begins with an excerpt of “You Have Redeemed My Soul,” written by Don and Lori Chaffer and adapted by Jenny Moore, followed by a longer excerpt of “Be Our Light,” which is a song Jenny wrote based on a hymn text by Frederick Faber.

And while it may not be entirely fair to place an unedited live version captured on a hand-held digital recorder beside Jenny’s studio versions, we still wanted to share Jenny’s originals. This audio opens with an excerpt of “You Have Redeemed My Soul” from Jenny’s CD Songs for listening to on the train with an excellent set of headphones and an ambivalent heartand is followed by “Be Our Light,” released on our We Will Not Be Silent album. We’ve got both CDs available for purchase at the church, but the We Will Not Be Silent project can also be purchased as a digital download from iTunes.

We’re also delighted to let people know that Jenny Moore will be in Winnipeg for a few weeks this fall, and that we’ve managed to arrange to host her for a house concert. More details to follow…

And thanks to Sarah Hodges-Kolisnyk for the use of the great photograph.
