What is happening around saint benedict’s table the week of November 7:

nteresting opportunities to connect just keep rolling out. For this week, Emily Cain and Tim Klaas (90 Furby St. 930-5509) are hosting an evening dealing with the issue of climate change, and how it affects hunger around the world. Join us on Wednesday, November 9th at 7:30 for a conversation with Foodgrains Bank policy advisor, and saint ben’s member, Carol Thiessen. All are welcome for an evening of wine, conversation, and letter writing. For more information on how Foodgrains is responding, visit www.fastforchange.ca. Carol also has a piece posted on our website: stbenedictstable.ca/2011/11/drought-in-east-africa-is-it-due-to-climate-change/.

-The readings for Sunday November 13 are 1 Thessalonians 5:1-11 and Matthew 25:14-30.

-Hear the Silence – Saturday November 19, 7pm – a liturgy of stillness, readings, music and prayer, led by Gord Johnson and Larry Campbell

-On the afternoon of Sunday November 20 we’re presenting an opportunity to take a tour of William Kurelek: The Messenger, an exhibit currently running at the Winnipeg Art Gallery. Helen Lyons has offered to give us a custom tour of Kurelek’s work, much of which wrestles with themes of faith, struggle, and Christian belief. We’ll meet at the Art Gallery at 3pm on the 20th, do the tour together, and then people will still have time to get some dinner (maybe go somewhere together?) before the 7pm liturgy. Admission is as follows: Adults $10, Seniors and Students $8, Family (up to 2 adults and 4 children under 18) $25. wag.ca/art/current-exhibitions/exhibition/88/william-kurelek-the-messenger

-ideaExchange at Aqua Books – Tuesday November 22, 7:30pm – Bill Blaikie on the place and role of faith in the world of politics.

-Our Mental Health support group has decided to meet on a bi-weekly basis, so these are the dates for the next while: November 15 and 29, and December 13. The group gathers in the small chapel at All Saints from 7 to 8:30 pm. Please use the main Broadway doors to enter!

-Our ongoing series of what we’re calling “LivingRoom Liturgies” are in full swing. It looks like we’re booked solid for our November 18 session, but there is still space for the December 9 gathering in the home of Nancy Constantine (who does have two dogs and a cat). You can sign up for this evening at the back of the church, or you can send an email to contact us indicating whether you will be bringing wine, bread, hummus, olives, or a plate of cheese and crackers to share at the gathering. More LivingRoom Liturgies will take place in the new year, so if you have space enough for a handful of people and are interested in hosting, email volunteer@stbenedictstable.ca.

-Just a reminder about our 4:00pm “child-friendly” liturgies, which take place on the 2nd and 4th Sunday of each month, with the next one set for this Sunday, November 13. This is a shorter service of about 40 minutes, offered with an eye to families with young children, though certainly open to all.

-The people at Agape Table tell us that for the next few weeks they’d really appreciate having macaroni noodles included in our Sunday night baskets of fruit, so do try to remember to bring a package along with you next week.

-Thanks to Jaylene Johnson and Margaret Howison, for sharing their music at Saturday’s house concert, and to the Heinrichs family for being such great hosts. It was a very good evening, with a full house of 40 people in attendance.
