The 10th annual saint ben’s day camp – August 14-18, 2017
Ten years ago, our family hosted the first ever saint ben’s day camp! It is fun to look back and remember those early days. We had 12 campers, a big dream, and the support of the saint ben’s community. And today, the dream is alive and well, and the community support continues to be beautifully present. But we have grown! This week we had 27 campers!
The campers were amazing – full of energy and enthusiasm. They ranged in age from 6-15 years old, and came from diverse backgrounds and cultures. It is delightful to watch them thrive in an environment where they are free to be themselves and to be accepted and celebrated for who they are. Eight of the campers came through camperships donated by individuals in the saint ben’s community. These camperships went to newcomers to Canada – kids that are part of a transitional school in Winnipeg’s core. Thanks to those who gave of their resources to make it possible for newcomers to Canada to receive the gift of this week.
And thanks to the community of saint benedict’s table and to the Diocese of Rupert’s Land, from the campers and from our family, for all your support and prayers and encouragement in this adventure. It wouldn’t have been possible without you!
