For a Time Like This: Evening Prayer

A music podcast featuring Trish Vrolijk's song, "Evening Prayer." The song is a setting of a prayer from the Evening Prayer service in the Church of England's Common Worship book. Trish's version is one we often use in our Sunday liturgy, with this recording done as part of her series of home-recordings during the time of pandemic. She’s been doing these as Facebook live streams on her music page, and since March she’s performed over twenty songs - both originals and covers - to share with anyone who would like a little bit of a lift in the day. Her husband Brad often accompanies her on guitar (as is the case in “Evening Prayer”), and on one recorded about three weeks ago there is an appearance by a particularly special guest!

The text of the prayer is simple and lovely, and we’ve been using it in our online daily 5pm Evening Prayer:

As  our evening prayer rises before you, O God,
so may your mercy come down upon us
to cleanse our hearts
and set us free to sing your praise,
now and for ever.
