Artist Residencies

saint benedict’s table is a community that values active participation in the arts. From our very beginning in 2004, we have sought to engage with the arts in a variety of ways, including in our weekly worship, special events such as art exhibits and concerts, as well as in the support of an artist residency and of the production of new works of art created by members of our community.

Announcing the 2024-25 Artists-in-Residence:

Christen Rachul

Christen is exploring a pottery project aimed at enhancing our engagement with the stations of the cross, featuring a unique bowl for each station. Christen plans to use of different shapes, textures, colours, clay bodies, and firing methods to create bowls that invite community members to use multiple senses as they reflect on and engage with each station.

Angeline and Tony Schellenberg

Are collaborating on a poetry-photography project in response to the legionary during the transition from Easter through Ascension and Pentecost, into Ordinary Time (May - July). Angeline hopes to write 6-10 poems and Tony aims to create a similar number of abstract motion-blur photographs, for a combined photo-poetry display.

Rachel Sutton

Rachel is a multi-disciplinary maker! She loves to tackle many kinds of creative projects. For this residency, Rachel will be learning a few methods of visible mending, including embroidery, darning and Sashiko, the art of Japanese mending. Using these techniques, Rachel plans to turn disused items of clothing into functional art pieces. After this period of practice and creating, Rachel hopes to host a crafternoon event, inviting folks to bring items in need of mending to visit learn and mend together.
