Pastoral Care Team

  • The Right Reverend Donald Phillips, PhD

Don served the Diocese of Rupert’s Land as bishop for over 18 years, retiring in 2018. He (and spouse Nancy) were pleased to be part of the initial gathering of what would become saint benedict’s table in 2003. Both of them have continued to participate (as time allows) in this community. Don has ministered as a parish priest in Alberta and Saskatchewan and is a strong proponent of supporting every member in their life and ministry. He and Nancy have two sons and six grandchildren. In mid-life he took up physical fitness, and continues to enjoy running and taking daily walks with Nancy.

  • Reverend Helen Holbrook

Rev. Helen Holbrook is an ordained Anglican Priest; she serves as an honorary assistant at St. Mary Magdalene Anglican Church, and has been a long time member of st benedict's table. Professionally, Helen has worked as a spiritual care provider/chaplain for over 20 years (Seven Oaks Hospital, Riverview Health Centre, and St. Boniface Hospital). She currently works part time as a Chaplain at St. John's College, University of Manitoba, and as a casual Spiritual Care provider at St. Boniface Hospital. Helen lives in St. Vital with her husband Paul (also a chaplain) and two fur babies, Pam and Ginger. She can be seen out and about walking the dogs or cycling!

Special strengths: Helen has facilitated healing prayer training (2 year program), led workshops on grief, presented at a palliative care conference, and co-facilitated No One Dies Alone training.

  • Ian Mowat

Ian is a professional visitor! A retired hospital chaplain and an ordained Baptist minister, he is comfortable paying hospital visits or meeting folks in their homes. Ian and his wife Pat have been a part of st. benedict’s table for 16 years. They have two grown children: Heather, a counsellor who lives in Edmonton, and David, a businessman who lives and works in New York. Ian's personal hobbies include playing the trumpet in the New Horizons Band and woodworking. (In fact, he built the beautiful "library on wheels" we use to display our kids books at the back of the church!)

We believe we are called to live out the life of a transformed and alternative people. We also believe in an open table, welcoming discussion and wrestling with questions of faith together; supporting each other in times of distress or difficulty. We’re grateful for a pastoral care team who are available simply to chat or also to support in times of difficulty. Please contact info@stbenedictstable.ca should you wish to arrange pastoral care.
